Yes, we did have our Thanksgiving at a Luby's, away from friends and family, but together. The weather was sour in Dallas and we ended up spending three days waiting on a load. They dispatched us to "the Bronx", as it is known in New York City, with a load for a custom door company. We got there in plenty of time thinking we would ease over the GW bridge at about 4:30 to deliver early in the morning when the traffic was lighter...big mistake, the traffic is never light in New York City, and is especially worse in the very early morning hours before both levels of the bridge are open. We did get there and began yet another wait but this time to Norway, Michigan (did you know there is an upper part of that state?). Get your map out and take a look at where that is, there are parts of Canada further south. It was beautiful country, albeit winter, and there was a bit of snow on the ground from the previous day or two. It was also very cold, 16 degrees downtown at around noon. We were actually on the other side of Lake Michigan from a run we had two weeks ago west of Grand Rapids. The lakes are magnificent, like small oceans or seas.
This evening we are in Milwaukee, Wisconsin waiting to see where the next assignment will be. We are having a problem with the auxiliary electrical system on the truck so the cab heater will not work more than an hour at a time until you have to start the motor and recharge the accessory batteries. I mentioned this to the fleet owner a while back. Apparently this is a problem with this year model and the correct fix has not been found yet. We may try going to a local dealer and getting the batteries checked out in case they are the problem instead of the low voltage cut out modem. All this to say that it is cold here, not over 20 degrees today, and it is hard to stay warm.
A bit of fortune came our way this week related to Sandy's relationship with good old WTC. They have asked her to teach a distance course or two and perhaps help develop some online college prep courses. After she gets through polishing up her dissertation she can now go right to work on this project. Now, if I can just find a way to keep myself busy too.
We've heard from friends and family a good deal over the last months while we have been on the road. You will never know how much this is appreciated. It keeps us plugged in to the real world and helps maintain a connection to normal people (you wouldn't believe how many people out there are so unlike us, you know...abnormal ((Abbey Normal for you Young Frankenstein fans))). Every day we pray for Josh, Jonathan, Jason and Tamara, and Douglas, and all the loved ones in theirs lives, to stay healthy, be protected, and enjoy life. We also lift up our mothers and siblings, friends, concerns, and the puppies. I hope this post finds you all well and prepared for your Christmas. With His in birth to celebrate we all draw closer, even when we are far away.
Pictures to come from Sandy, I don't know how to put them on here.

Jim and Sandy
