Dachshunds, Donkeys, and, oh, yes, Cats, Cats, Cats....there is never a shortage of cats around our house.  We inherited about eight wild cats with the house, and someone recently told us that the former owner had many more at one point.

Over the past year, I have fed them and tried to sit patiently on the back porch, waiting for them to venture near enough to pet, and now all but one of them are pretty much tame.  They love attention and weave in and out of my legs when I'm trying to feed them.  The vet laughed and told us that free-range cats and Dachshunds just don't mix, and we've had a few "vivid manifestations" of that point.

One of the cats is a white calico mix.  She had kittens recently and chose a secluded corner inside the garage to tuck them away, but she keeps moving them from corner to corner, probably to allude the tom cat that seems to keep the population down by killing the male kittens.  :(

Yesterday, I opened the garage door and heard them close by.  It took me a minute to find them, because she had moved them up onto a shelf, in the back of one corner.  All four fuzzy little snowballs seem to be doing fine.

Since it has been so dry, Pete has mowed the grass in the field down to nothing, so we had to get a round bale of hay for him.  We bought a hay ring from a guy outside of Tuscola and went to get it yesterday.  Pete approved the purchase.

Praise God, we did get an inch and a half of rain, with a chance for more in today's forecast.  I know there are many people praying for rain, so this is really an answer to prayer.
