It has been a while since I have added anything, so thought I would bring you up to date on some of the latest. We got started on a good month for October, then were stuck in El Paso for a few days. A few good runs came later that took us back up to Wisconsin and on down to Alabama. We have sort of adopted a small park in Decatur since our paths cross through there now and then. We’ve had a chance to get the fold-up bikes out and ride some, do a little fishing, and mainly rest a little. You can only sit still for so long though, then you get irritated and restless. We’ve heard that the Mexican trucking companies are taking some of the border business with “improvements” in NAFTA legislation. We’ve also heard that this is only a rumor. All I know is that things have slowed down a bit.
During a slow time last week we were asked to go to Indianapolis to get our new truck. That was an expensive deadhead move but worth it. We drove to Indianapolis and, just as we pulled into town, got a call to pick up a load in Greenwood, just south of town. This created a very hectic afternoon as we threw everything into the new truck and got out of town. We are now traveling in a 2008 Freightliner. Maybe Sandy can get a picture out for you. It’s gold with dark green accents. The interior is very nice with a DVD, flatscreen TV, real wood cabinets and, get this… seats that everything works on (doesn’t take much to fascinate me). I also has two small refrigerators. One new feature we both like a whole lot is the large bed. It’s probably about a queen size when we’ve been sleeping on something like a twin. Ought to be nice once we get used to it.
Tonight we are our way to Columbia, South Carolina after a few runs up in New York, Pennsylvania, and northern Virginia. This will be one of those all nighters and Sandy is driving right now. I think this truck suits her better. The cruise works, the seat adjusts, and the steering is tighter. Not sure if we’ll get work out of South Carolina right away but we’ll keep our fingers crossed.
