The area around northern Indiana and Southern Ohio is full of Amish communities. Sometimes, we have to wait behind horses and buggies in order to get on down the road, but it's neat to see. These families have beautiful farms that are well-kept and seem productive. Many of them live side by side with other farmers who have all of the modern mechanisms for planting and harvesting. It makes you wonder what these families have that we've totally lost in all of our "progress". We went through the area on Sunday, and probably passed 20 or 25 buggies full of people just out for a quiet Sunday drive, I suppose. We've seen a lot of different crops along the routes we've taken. There were fields of soybeans in northern Michigan, acres and acres of beautiful cornfields in Indiana and Ohio, potato crops in Ontario, and scores of others that we weren't sure what they were. It's still not the same as a green field full of cotton, though. I guess it's just a feeling of being home. :)
Well, we just got an offer for a load from Galena, Kansas to Dallas, so we're going to hit the road. I'm uploading a few more pics and am working on a photo sharing service where I can upload full sized photos and lots more of them. One of these is of a nuclear power plant we passed near New Baltimore, MI on Lake Huron, one is of a Wendy's sign in Ontario (notice the Canadian maple leaf in place of the apostrophe), and one is of a large cross that we passed at sunrise one morning. I hope to make some prints of it later on. I'll upload more when I get a chance.
Hope to see you all soon. LOL
